The TEll// By Thrift & Tell

Welcome to THE TELL//BY THRIFT & TELL: a celebration of fashionable women who dress as smart as they shop.

This week’s guest on THE TELL// is interior designer and author Danielle Rollins. As you will see, Danielle is not afraid to mix bold colors and patterns in her interiors, and her closet naturally follows suit. Rather than blindly following trends, Danielle chooses silhouettes that are both timeless and flattering. She believes in buying less and investing in pieces that will stand the test of time, including a 20 plus year old Oscar de La Renta Jacket that she still wears and loves. Like any good T&T woman, Danielle also loves to hunt for special, vintage pieces at auction houses, thrift stores, and antique shops both online and near her home in Florida. If she’s not careful though, she’s going to have a houseguest this winter. I am dying to go thrifting in Palm Beach (it’s supposed to be some of the best in the country!). Thanks to Danielle for her support of T&T and I hope you enjoy!

//Best Fashion Advice You Ever Received: Wear what works for your figure, not what’s in fashion.

//Types of clothing you invest in:  Classic pieces that don’t go in and out of “style”, staples that can serve as background pieces, well made shoes and handbags, good jewelry and accessories.

//Types of clothing you save on:  T-shirts and swimsuit coverups because I ruin them with sunscreen!

//Your greatest extravagance: My skincare regimen, but I have never regretted it.

//Brands That Will Stand the Test of Time: Hermes

//Favorite High Street Brands: J.Crew

//Favorite Designer Brands:  Johanna Ortiz, Chloe

//Favorite High-Low Brands to Mix: J.Crew

//Favorite Places to Consign Your Own Closet: The Real Real or I sell via Instagram for a charity

//Currently Collecting Dust in the Back of your Closet:  My Birkin bags, I love them and pull them out occasionally but I find that I rarely carry them anymore because I feel like they became too much of a status thing and I prefer a more quiet style.  [Editor’s note: Send them my way…I’ll keep them warm for you! xx]

//Your Closet Tried and Trues:  Crisp white shirts, well cut blazers, oversize scarves and a good pair of jeans— they go anywhere!

//Best investment you ever made in your style:  Ignoring what was “in” or “out”

//Style Choice From Your Past That Haunts You: 1986-90 The look of my high school years were quite comical looking back!  I love when my kids say, “oh that Is so 80’s” about things—if they only had photos!

//Advice to someone looking to define their own style:  Buy less, but buy better.

 //Trend you wish would go way?  I am not a fan of the stepped and strangly mangled jean hems. I just don’t understand things that are commercially produced that are contrived.

//You feel great. What are you wearing? My pajamas!

//Occasions when you splurge: When I feel a little blue, usually and shoes or lipsticks are the best pick me ups!

//Occasions when you save: Art and Antique auctions and estate/thrift sales — I am addicted.

//Most prized possession: My 2 Verdura 20 Buck Bracelets that I can wear as bracelets or wear together as a necklace.

//Home Decor Style:  I like whatever is appropriate to the style of the architecture, period and preferences of the moment! I am the girl that got a place in Palm Beach just so I could decorate it!

//Favorite place to hunt for home decor: ADAC Atlanta Decorative Arts Center, Miami, Chicago for mid century modern, just wandering around New York because there’s always treasures to be found, or hitting the Paris Flea markets.

//Go-to for unique items, whether it be clothing, accessories, home or art: South Dixie Highway or Scott’s Antique Market

//Your fashion motto: Never look like you’re trying.

//Your life motto:  Always look like you’re trying!
